Tetley Tax Consultants (TTC) is a family business based in Beverley, East Yorkshire. We have deliberately kept our overheads low so we can provide an efficient and cost effective solution to all of your tax problems.  TTC will take away the stress that dealing with tax matters can bring.

We use our extensive knowledge of HMRC to mitigate tax risk and to ensure a smooth experience of dealing with tax administration.  TTC draws on years of experience in relation to dispute resolution, to help achieve a quick, cost effective and satisfactory resolution.

Having a vast amount of successful involvement working with some of the largest businesses in the UK; TTC can work with you to resolve long running tax enquiries as well as assist you in mitigating future risk.

TTC also offers a service of compiling accounts, filing returns and dealing with all tax administration matters so you can focus on what matters to you, your business.

Working at home during the Covid-19 pandemic has enabled us to fine tune working remotely from clients and has shown that this can be equally as effective as face to face communications.  Using modern technology we can provide our service nationally. This approach also helps to reduce our client’s professional fees. However, we are more than happy to travel to meetings as and when required.

Our People

Steve Tetley, Director

Steve has over 30 years’ experience with HMRC, working in a variety of roles throughout his career. Steve joined at the tender age of 17 and quickly moving through the grades to become a fully trained tax inspector and senior leader in the Yorkshire region. He is predominately trained in direct taxes, but does have experience of dealing with all tax duties.

Tonnage Tax

Steve has extensive knowledge of Tonnage Tax (TT) and was HMRC’s National Technical Lead for over 8 years. He was solely responsible for dealing with applications from UK and International groups interested in joining the regime, and built up an excellent reputation in the shipping industry. Steve had operational oversight of the HMRC teams working on TT and was responsible for training staff, identifying areas of tax risk as well as providing technical advice on the more complex areas of the legislation. He also led on TT litigation matters.

Steve worked closely with TT policy, the shipping industry and the UK Chamber of Shipping to ensure the regime was a success.  Steve has worked directly with Ministers as well as having input into ministerial briefings.

Large Business

Steve worked within HMRC’s Large Business unit for a number of years, he was a highly experienced and proactive Customer Compliance Manager for some of the largest corporates in the UK. He successfully managed case teams covering all tax duties (Corporation Tax, VAT, Employment Duties, Customs, International Trade and Excise). This involved facilitation of the annual business risk reviews, tax risk management and ensuring corporate governance was adhered to (such as Senior Accounting Officer and publication of Tax Strategies).

He has an exceptional record of proactively working with customers to achieve the best outcome in resolving tax disputes. He has extensive experience and knowledge of tax litigation, HMRC’s High Risk Corporate Programme and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

As a member of a HMRC Penalty Board, Steve was responsible for authorising the more contentious penalties against large businesses. He was also an Authorised Officer for the purposes of authorising third party notices and complex information requests.

Tax Investigations

During Steve’s career he has dealt with numerous tax investigations ranging from sole traders to large corporates. He has also managed a multitude of teams undertaking tax enquiry work and advised on the best ways to achieve a satisfactory resolution. One of Steve’s greatest strengths is his proficient ability in bringing parties together to achieve the best settlement for all involved.

Personal

In Steve’s spare time he loves spending time with his large family. He was also enjoys socialising with friends as well as enjoying the occasional round of golf. Steve can often be seen pounding the pavements of Beverley with his beloved spaniels.

Jacqueline Tetley, Director

Jacqueline (Jac) has 29 years’ experience working with HM Revenue and Customs. After joining in 1991, she undertook a number of administrative roles before been promoted to management roles. Her tax background is predominantly working in self- assessment and PAYE, she has a wealth of knowledge in this particular area.

Jac worked in the Risk and Intelligence Service (RIS) part of HMRC. She is a trained RIS Risk Assessor gaining AAT accredited Tax Professional qualifications. For a number of years Jac was responsible for analysing complex tax information to identify areas of tax risk and brings a wealth of knowledge to Tetley Tax Consultants in managing tax risk. This knowledge is invaluable in helping taxpayers minimise their exposure to tax enquiries.

Recently Jac has had responsibility in managing staff on the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. This has enabled her to gain a working knowledge of the Government’s support schemes which have been introduced to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jac is a ‘people person’ and was also instrumental in supporting staff gain new employment after the announcement of the closure of the Hull office.  She has exceptional organisational and management skills and in addition to assisting clients with their tax issues, she also takes on the role of TTC’s Office Manager.

Jac loves to spend her time with her family and friends.  She has a real passion for cooking and is often tasked with making Sunday lunch for the masses to include the children, their boyfriends/girlfriends, her mum and the in-laws.  Jac also loves her gardening and spends a lot of time tending to her flowers so she can enjoy a G&T surrounded by colour!
